Victory to Close Regular Season By Marcia Koester
October 22, 2010
On Tuesday night the girls played their last conference game against Grundy Center. The team played very hard, but just couldn’t come up with a victory and lost in three games. They still need to be proud of themselves as they ended up second in the conference with a record of 5-1. Congratulations girls! Senior night was on Thursday when we hosted North Tama. We honored the whole team and parents plus our three seniors. The seniors honored were Shannon Boyle, Rachael Cheeseman, and Jill Schildroth. These three ladies have accomplished a lot over their four years on the volleyball team. We will not say good-bye to them yet as we still have matches to win in regional play. Before the team was introduced we also presented Jill with a volleyball commemorating her 2,000 career assist which she achieved a week earlier. Congrats Jill! The team wanted to win their final regular season game and they did that. It took more games than expected but they won with scores of 25-12, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-10. We had excellent percentages in the first and fourth games, but did not stay focused in the second and third games. This can not happen in regional games, as everyone wants to win to continue on. We will work hard in the gym, so we are ready to play each and every game! Jill dished out 37 assists on the night and was perfect on the night serving 20-for 20 and also had 10 digs. Jenna led the way with 11 kills followed by the two Emily’s with 10 a piece. Shannon has 7 kills and led with 3 blocks. Erin led us with 14 digs. The varsity team ended the regular season with a record of 23-9 which is outstanding.
