GLADBROOK - The fight for second place in Class 1A District 4 became a three-way tie on Friday night after a missed field goal in the final minute prevented Gladbrook-Reinbeck from getting past Eagle Grove. The Eagles (6-2, 4-2) jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never trailed in their 27-25 victory, creating a logjam behind district frontrunner Woodward-Granger. The Rebels (6-2, 4-2) could not fully capitalize on five Eagle Grove turnovers and suffered a rare home loss. Logan Petersen's 20-yard field goal with 50 seconds left missed its mark and the Eagles ran out the clock. Fullback Austin Rutherford rushed for 176 yards and a touchdown to lead Eagle Grove. Andy Bell was 8-for-9 passing for 96 yards, hitting Cody Helmick for a 7-yard TD pass with 9:58 left for a 27-19 lead. G-R got to within 27-25 on Parker Bolt's 7-yard scramble to paydirt with 6:04 left, but the two-point conversion pass failed. Travis Freese finished with 63 yards rushing and TD runs of 3, 5 and 7 yards. Bolt was 12-for-21 for 179 yards, with Petersen making seven catches for 119 yards. Colton Puls had 12 tackles while Tanner Hulst had 11 tackles, four for loss, and two sacks. Petersen had three tackles, an interception and one of G-R's four fumble recoveries.
