On Saturday the JV volleyball team hosted its own Rebel Tournament and was able to win the consolation bracket in the afternoon. We did this by beating two very good teams in South Hardin and Wapsie Valley. The day didn’t start nearly as well as it ended. In pool play we lost to AGWSR in three games (22-20, 11-21, 11-15), Aplington-Parkersburg also in three (21-11, 19-21, 8-15) and finally we lost to New Hampton (16-21, 13-21). If you were paying attention you noticed we did win the first game of the first two matches. We would start out strong and crisp with our passes and serves however as the match progressed we were like lettuce left out for the day wilt, wilting, wilted. Coach Erickson and I stuck with the game plan, sent the players to lunch, and in the consolation bracket play the ol salad shaker paid off. We mixed it up and poured it on. South Hardin took game one 20-25 but by this time things were starting to jell. In game two they didn’t stand a chance, as we won easily 25-12. In the rubber match we fought hard and played smart, winning 15-12. Next up was Wapsie Valley, a team that had beaten us earlier in the year. We came out fired up and confident and although we lost the first game 21-25 we were determined to get the next two. It was quite a battle at 26 all. We took a time out, got our game heads back on won 28-26. Game three was a chess match till 10-9, when Madi Corwin went back to the line and rattled off 5 consecutive serves with two of those being aces. We had some great and some not so great serving throughout the day and as a team we served 83%. I hope to improve on the number next weekend. Sidney Dilly led the team with 20 kills on the day. Ellie Stoakes added 17 with 8 ace serves and 4 blocks. Setter Taylor Flamme played well with 45 assist, 9 kills and 27 digs. Taylor Weida, 24 assist 6 kills; and Alyssa Christopher, 10 assist and 16 digs, shared time at the other setting position. Brittney Keller 13 kills and Mikayla Knaack 9 kills split time at the outside hitter position both serving and playing well. Callie Kuehl had 7 kills and 1 block playing middle hitter. Jayde Price served well at 90% with 4 aces and 22 digs and last but not least Madi Corwin got better as the day went on with 7 aces and 54 digs in the libero position. This was the first time these 9 girls played together. It took all morning to find our rhythm and figure out everyone’s roll but once we did good things started to happen. Next Saturday we travel to GMG and we hope to pick up right where we left off. Congratulations and good luck next weekend.

JV Volleyball Team beat BCLUW. Last Tuesday night the JV girls beat BCLUW with scores of 25-10 and 25-22. In doing so we improved our conference record to 2-1. Rachel Bown led the team in kills with 5 she also had 2 blocks and 3 ace serves. Sidney Dilly added 4 kills. Erin Wentzien put down 3 for kills. Taylor Flamme had 10 assist with 2 ace serves. Carrie Shouse made it back into the line up coming up with 2 kills and 1 block. Kristen Tessau stayed busy on the court tallying 6 ace serves, 3 digs and 3 blocks. Callie Kuehl continues to improve in the middle position with 1 kill and 1 ace serve. Madi Corwin kept the back court alive with 1 kill and 4 digs. We played very well and need to be ready for West Marshall Tuesday night. Nice win team!
