GARWIN - This one was doomed from the beginning. GMG took a penalty on the opening kickoff, suffered a safety two plays later and watched as Colo-NESCO rattled off 23 first-quarter points on its way to a 58-6 victory in Class A District 3 football Friday night. Brandon Eley threw for a touchdown and ran for two more, Austin Larsen had three touchdown runs and two interceptions, and Colo-NESCO (3-5, 2-2) remained in the top half of the district standings with a dominant victory. The Royals led 37-0 at the half and had a 58-0 lead before GMG (0-8, 0-4) got on the board in the fourth quarter. Colo-NESCO has won every game this season in which it has scored 36 points or more, holding its opponents to six points or fewer in each of those three games. Kody Larsen kickstarted the Royals by tackling GMG tailback Brody Fisher in the end zone on the second play from scrimmage. Eley connected with Blake Jobe on a 36-yard touchdown pass on the ensuing drive, Eley had a 52-yard TD run and Austin Larsen rumbled in from 12 yards for Colo-NESCO's 23-0 first quarter lead. Eley finished with 119 yards rushing and was 6-for-9 passing for 99 yards. Austin Larsen rushed for 77 yards and three scores, while Jobe had three catches for 71 yards. Tyler Erickson and Brandyn Niemeyer added second-half touchdown runs for the Royals. Curtis Walker had eight tackles and Austin Larsen 7.5 tackles and two of the Royals' four interceptions. Fisher led the GMG offense with 72 yards rushing on eight carries, while quarterback Brandon Lolwing scrambled 10 times for 63 yards. Lolwing was 4-for-14 passing for 23 yards, while Michael Burt was 1-for-6 for 13 yards. Burt led the GMG defense with 10 tackles. The Wolverines play a non-district game next Friday night against Don Bosco (0-7) in Waterloo.
