We are back at it again this week with a travel spot of Ackley to take on the Cougars of AGWSR. We needed to be ready to go after a sub par performance last week against A-P. We needed to get our swagger back and play some good football to right the ship. Coach Lindamen and his staff have done a very nice job of building this program to a very respectable level and we knew we would face a good football team that would play every down very hard and intense. We didn’t respond very well. The Cougars took it to us in every aspect of this game. We were dominated and didn’t give up much of a fight. We were very flat and played with no emotion. It was not a pretty sight as we went down in flames by a lopsided 45-6 final score dropping us to 2-2 on the year. Our score actually was a kickoff return for a TD as our offense couldn’t move the ball and our defense couldn’t stop AGWSR. It was just not a pretty sight for all 40 minutes. We need to get back to basics and really work on playing hard. These guys will do that. This is a good group of kids but now we need to grow and build on these negative results and turn them into a positive, learning experience. This is part of high school athletics so the big question is “How will we respond?” Our next action will be Monday October 4 at the Pit as we play host to the Comets from BCLUW. This will be a 6:00 pm kickoff. See you on the sideline. Freshmen Rebel Football On Thursday September 23 the youthful Rebels traveled to Aplington to take on the perennial power A-P Falcons. No matter what year it is or what game it is, you always know what you will get when you visit A-P. It will be a tough, hard hitting, smash mouth opponent who will come at you for four quarters. This year would be no different. We made the trip to Aplington in body but not in mind. We were physically on the field as in standing and watching but in no sense of the word were we there to compete and battle for this game. Our effort was very lack luster and our execution matched. We didn’t get anything going throughout the whole game. Chase Clark broke free for a 60 yard TD run late in the fourth quarter to prevent the A-P shutout. It was a 54-6 rout for the Falcons dropping us to 0-4 on the year. Not many things to highlight on this rainy evening as we were dominated in virtually every aspect of the football game. Part of the problem was we didn’t compete and most of all it seemed like that was all right with everyone. We have to compete and we have to have people step up and say enough is enough. We need to do what we do in practice. It seems right now we would rather beat the tar out of one another instead of an opponent. This has all of the coaches baffled but we will work hard and so will the kids to figure this out and right the ship. We are not blessed with time but we will get it taken care of. We will take the field again on Thursday October 7 for our season finale against the Mustangs from East Marshall. It will be in LeGrand and will begin at 6:00 pm.
