Christmas is slowly creeping up on me and soon it will be here.  I always say I’m not going to have such a hectic holiday but somehow it always happens.  Christmas for me is baking and making crafts, etc. for my family and friends.  I know I should start all these things in August but it seems I get all my ideals and inspirations after Thanksgiving.  It should be the simple joys of Christmas that we treasure the most.  Family and friends and the sharing of small pleasures are very important.  We received a card this week that Christmas doesn’t mean lavish presents – it is your feelings.

THIS CHRISTMAS – Mend a quarrel. Seek out a forgotten friend. Write a love letter. Share some treasure. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Keep a promise. Find the time. Forgive an enemy. Listen. Apologize if you were wrong. Think first of someone else. Be kind and gentle. Laugh a little. Laugh a little bit more. Express your gratitude. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak your love. Speak it again. Speak it still once again.     –Anonymous

Wouldn’t we all be better people if we could do those things? I have been busy making some food gifts this last week-end and one is a salad dressing it seems everyone likes.  Make several recipes pour into and decorate any container or jar.  This does make a great gift. LETTUCE DRESSING 1 can tomato soup 1 cup Crisco oil 1/2 cup vinegar 1 cup sugar 1/8 tsp. garlic salt 1 cup celery seed 1 tsp. dry mustard Mix together in a blender or with a mixer.  Serve over lettuce.  Keeps well in the refrigerator. This is a request I had this last week. CINNAMON ORNAMENTS These require no baking and is simple for kids to make. Mix 3/4 to 1 cup applesauce with a 4.12 oz. container of ground cinnamon to form a stiff dough.  Roll out to 1/4” thickness.  Cut with cookie cutters.  Make a hole in the ornament for a ribbon.  Carefully put on a rack to dry.  Let air dry for several days, turning occasionally.  Makes 12 sweet smelling ornaments. “Christmas is when you exchange hellos with strangers and Good Buys with friends.”
