The Gladbrook Tree Lighting Festivities was held on Tues., Nov. 24th. The 13th annual tree lighting was by far the wettest with rain not snow. All the activities were moved inside the City Center. Although the weather was a lot to be desired, a large crowd of adults and excited kids enjoyed the activities. The upper level of the City Center was alive with the laughter of children as they visited with Santa Claus and received their “Santa Sacks”. Gladbrook’s annual “Festival of Trees” were illuminated that evening as well. The unique and beautifully decorated trees, holiday scenes and blowups turned the City Center into a winter wonderland. The holiday music provided by Sue Koster added to everyone getting into the spirit of the season. The Festival of Trees will be on display in the upstairs of the City Center through December. We would like to thank all the businesses, organizations, and churches that participated. Both the young and the old enjoyed riding on the beautifully lighted trolley pulled by a team of Belgiums belonging to Dennis Dostal. The trolley rides were sponsored by F&M Bank and Goos Implement. We also want to thank Denny for furnishing the sound system. In the theater lobby, Janell Gienger, Kim Thompson, and Dana Brown set up a Farmers Market with a large variety of holiday goodies. 500 hot dogs and 11 gallons of apple cider were served inside the City Center. A big thank you to Hometown Foods for donating the hot dogs. The “Kettle King & Queen” was kept busy making kettle corn in the lower level of the City Center. After everyone had registered for prizes, Pastor Robert Doner emceed the program. The kids enjoyed singing “Jingle Bells”, “Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer”, “Away in the Manger” and “Silent Night”. The kids still did the traditional count down for the lighting of the tree. When the program was over and everyone went outside the pine tree donated by the Richard Bruene family was lighted along with all the pole decorations. Gladbrook’s Main Street is now ready for the holiday season. Prizes, prizes and more prizes were given away. Approximately 95 kid prizes and 25 adult prizes were donated by the area businesses. A big thank you to each and every Gladbrook merchant. Three lucky winners who took home $50 in trade dollars were Britney Young, Josh Brubaker, and Lisa Reinhard. We want to especially thank Gladbrook Covenant Clinic, Alliant Energy, Gladbrook Theater, and Vogel Funeral Homes for their very generous financial support. The tree lighting activities is sponsored by the Gladbrook Commercial Club. We hope everyone has a happy holiday season.
