The Gladbrook American Legion Auxiliary hosted a Veterans Day Celebration on Mon., Nov. 9th. Dept. Jr. Chaplain Claire Reinhard gave the dinner prayer. After the supper, Auxiliary President Jeanne Paustian and Post Commander Craig Russell emceed the program. Pat Clausen with pianist Sue Koster led in the singing of several patriotic songs. World War II veterans Dale Osten and Don Wolfgram talked about their trip on the “Honor Flight”, a Hy-Vee & Casey’s sponsored trip for our WW II veterans to Washington DC to see the World War II Memorial and other sights. Everyone enjoyed the very interesting summary of their trip and how impressed they were with all the volunteers and well-wishers. Post & Unit guests that brought greetings were Dept. Commander Marlin Tillman, Shenandoah, 3rd District Commander Monte Railsbeck, Shellsburg, Tama County Commander Richard Denbow, Gladbrook, SAL Dept. Commander James Valentine, Bonderant, Country President Jolene Denbow, and Dept. Sec/Treas. Marlene Valentine. All the veterans enjoyed standing while their service song was played. The program ended with all singing “God Bless America”. Hostesses were Marilyn Thoms, Becky Fevold, and Sandy Raum. The next meeting of the Post & Unit is Wed., Dec. 9th, with a 6:30 supper and a Christmas Candlelight Program to follow by the Juniors.
