Avis L. Dahms, age 97, of Gladbrook, died, Monday, October 12, 2009 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Interment will be in Crystal Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Goettsch Funeral Home in Gladbrook, IA. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.vogelfuneralhomes.com . Goettsch Funeral Home in Gladbrook is entrusted with arrangements. Avis was born July 12, 1912, in Crystal Township, in Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of William C. and Clara Goettsch Wiese. She received her education in Crystal Township #4, graduating from Gladbrook High School class of 1931. On December 11, 1935, she was united in marriage to Roy F. Dahms at home in rural Gladbrook. Together they farmed in the Beaman and Gladbrook area until Roy passed away in 1967. Avis moved into Gladbrook in 1969, and was employed part-time at Wentzien Hardware. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, charter member of the Adult Fellowship, first president of Afternoon Fidelis Guild, Royal Neighbors for over 50 years, secretary/treasurer for 40 years, Eastern Star, Bridge Club, and 500 Club. Avis is survived by her sons, Roger W. Dahms of Kansas City, MO, and Gary L. (Judy) Dahms of Houston, TX; 4 grand-children, Mark Dahms, Diane Taquino, Brian Dahms, Renee Boudreaux; 3 great -grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, brother Eldon (Dorothy) Wiese of Gladbrook, and sister-in-law, Helen Wiese. Avis was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, brother, Clarence Wiese, and sister, Ina Moeller.
