Bernice Miller

Bernice Miller died on Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center at the age of 96. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Gladbrook. Memorials may be directed to the Grinnell Regional Hospice. Bernice was born on January 25, 1913, the daughter of Earl Dudley and Lovina Mable Goos Barger in Beaman, Iowa. She graduated from Gladbrook High School. She was united in marriage to Lester “Earl” Miller in Des Moines on September 22, 1937. To this union a son and daughter were born, William and Bonnie. She was a clerk at JCPenney for thirty-one years until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Legion Auxiliary, Rebecca Lodge and the Grandmothers Club. Bernice loved watching Wheel of Fortune, The Price Is Right and Jeopardy. She always devoted herself to helping others and visiting her friends and family. She is survived by her grandchildren; Timothy Hill, Lisa (Ronnie) Dodson all of Sayre, Oklahoma and Andrew (Sherri) Hill of Piedmont, Oklahoma, and Shawn Miller of Denver, Colorado, Robert Mockler of Broomfield, Colorado and Tim Mockler of Los Angeles, California; three great grandchildren; Tami Jo Hodge, Tara Dodson and Coy Hines and four great great grandchildren; Daylon and Kadence Hodge and Bryce and Jaycee Hines; and her dearest friends; Charles and Twyla McAtee and Larry and Pat Criswell and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Bonnie Jo Hill, her son, William Earl Miller, sister, Helen Seward, brothers, Joseph, Kenneth, Keith and Marvin Barger.
