Edna L. Medberry, 88, of rural Beaman, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at her home. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at the Beaman United Methodist Church in Beaman. Pastor Mee of Beaman United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 16, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad. Interment will be in Badger Hill Cemetery, rural Gladbrook. A memorial has been established in her name. Edna was born July 15, 1920, in Gladbrook, IA, to Carl and Laura (Herbster) Eilers. She was educated in the Gladbrook schools, graduating from Gladbrook High School in 1937. She married Allen L. Medberry on November 29, 1942 in Gladbrook. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a telephone operator in Gladbrook. While her husband served in the navy at Jacksonville, FL during WWII, she was employed with the ship yards as a rivet inspector in support of the war. After the war, they returned to farm in the rural Beaman area, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Beaman United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She was active in several groups within Beaman including the American Legion Auxiliary, Amvets Auxiliary, and the Women’s Club. She also volunteered at the Beaman Library and the Marshalltown Hospital. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, bowling, and was an avid reader. She loved to sew, even sewing all three of her daughters’ wedding dresses. During the summers she enjoyed the family fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada. Survivors include three daughters; Jan (Bob) Kocher of Saint Cloud, Fl, Norma (Norm) DeJong of Independence, IA, and Joyce (Hal) Dielschneider of Beaman, IA; two sons, Larry (Beth) Medberry of Pella, IA, and Scott (Vickie) Medberry of Cincinnati, OH; 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Eilers of Gladbrook, IA She was preceded in death by her husband Allen, two sisters; Ruth Boland and Elsie Eilers, and two brothers; Charles and Irvin Eilers.
