Alpha Study met at the home at Karen Handorf on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. President Mary Luethje opened the meeting by reading a poem on May. Twenty members answered roll call. The treasurer’s report was given. A new member was voted on and will be contacted to join the group. Our Spring Fling is May 12th. We’ll meet in the Methodist Church parking lot at 11:00 a.m. and will carpool to Aplington for lunch at the Peppercorn Pantry. Mrs. Joanne Barnes from Ackley will give a short program on “LAUGHTER” following lunch. A sign-up sheet was passed. Sue Storjohann reviewed the books “First We Have Coffee” and “Papa’s Place” by Margaret Jensen. Both these heartwarming and inspirational books include warm stories of life as the daughter of a Scandinavian immigrant pastor and wife in the Canadian north and include timeless lessons of unwavering faith and family love. Mary closed the meeting by handing out the new officers and committee assignments for the 2009/2010 Alpha Study year. A delicious raspberry dessert was served. We will finish the year on May 12th with our Spring Fling outing. Secretary pro-tem Deb Wentzien
